Strawberry Banana Ice Cream

1 frozen banana

6-7 frozen strawberries

1/4 Cup milk (I used raw goat milk)

Blend banana, strawberries, and milk for a refreshing and completely healthy summer treat!  Add a drizzle of honey if desired.

*Store bought ice cream contains a laundry list of chemicals and harmful additives…do you have a yummy, healthier version of a favorite ice cream recipe?  If so, please share in the comments!!!

I’ve lost 70 pounds in a year.  I didn’t really plan to lose that much weight.  My life has changed and as I look back, I think about the days in between where I kept looking forward, making good food choices, being patient with myself and weeding out the foods that were harmful to my body…and one day I looked in the mirror and realized I had reached my goal.  It just took some readjusting of priorities and choices around here.  Continue Reading…

We went to New Mexico a few weeks ago and it was WONDERFUL to get away.  It was the first real trip I’ve taken since I started eating real food so I was a little curious about how it would go.  The weekend before we left we had a family wedding that my entire family was in so I was not able to plan ahead like I will next time.  Continue Reading…

Before we started this real food journey, we ordered pizza every Friday night.  Once I started weight watchers and realized how many points were in a single piece of pizza (7 points in one piece) I began to look for other options for our traditional pizza night.  Continue Reading…

I’ve been on vacation for the past week in New Mexico with my family, parents and grandparents.  What a special time we had together!  I always considered myself a beach person but now my heart is in the mountains as well!  At least the summertime mountains ;o)…It was a little tricky eating real food on vacation.  I’ll post later this week some tips and what helped me along the way!  But now let’s talk about hummus. I dream up blog posts all the time but have trouble posting frequently.  I suppose that is part of being a “real mom”…but I thought I’d share with you a snippet of my day today.  Continue Reading…

We spent some time working on the yard this weekend.  I dreamed of having a vegetable garden since college but felt like there was too much to learn. Continue Reading…

Change and Quiche

April 21, 2013

Hi Friends, I mentioned before that this time of transitioning to real food, including my weight loss, has been such a spiritual journey for me.  God has used all of this to reveal to me that I do not have to stay the same in any area of my life and he never meant for me to live defeated.  I used to think things about myself like “you will never change, you know nothing about nutrition, why even try because you will surely fail, etc…” Every time I would hear of someone fairly young dying of disease it would send me into a tailspin of fear.  I felt helpless and scared to trust God…until now.

I’m 30!  I had a wonderful birthday weekend and feel refreshed and renewed.  I had time to rest, read, run, shop, and rejuvenate.  I checked out the book “Crazy, Sexy Kitchen” by Kris Carr and Chad Sarno from the library before I left for my little getaway.  The title makes me blush a little, but the content of the book is fantastic if you are a novice at eating a plant based diet.  In the forward, the author describes how in 2003 at age 31 she was diagnosed with stage IV sarcoma cancer.  This age struck a chord with me since I turned 30 over the weekend.  Continue Reading…

Simple Dinner

April 12, 2013

Time got away from me this week so my hummus post will be coming next week!  I blame it on the fact that I am turning 30 on Saturday and slowly losing my mind!  But really, I’m turning 30!  How weird is that?  I remember when my dad turned 30…I remember what his 30th birthday cake looked like.  It’s kind of freaking me out that I knew my dad when he was 30.  Anyways, moving right along, I wanted to share a meal we have every week.
