I dream up blog posts all the time but have trouble posting frequently.  I suppose that is part of being a “real mom”…but I thought I’d share with you a snippet of my day today.  Continue Reading…

Change and Quiche

April 21, 2013

Hi Friends, I mentioned before that this time of transitioning to real food, including my weight loss, has been such a spiritual journey for me.  God has used all of this to reveal to me that I do not have to stay the same in any area of my life and he never meant for me to live defeated.  I used to think things about myself like “you will never change, you know nothing about nutrition, why even try because you will surely fail, etc…” Every time I would hear of someone fairly young dying of disease it would send me into a tailspin of fear.  I felt helpless and scared to trust God…until now.

Real Food Snacks

I’m a snacker.  I can’t help it.  And it turns out it’s good to snack, as long as you are snacking on things that nourish and energize your body.  Eating fruits and vegetables is completely guilt free in my book, and I try to eat a ton of them every day!  When I first started eating more vegetables, I literally bought veggie trays at Wal-mart and set them out on my kitchen island to snack on in the afternoon, much my like my bowls of frozen fruit!  I swapped the ranch dip for hummus.  I don’t know why, but for some reason a veggie tray was more appetizing to me at the time than buying individual vegetables…I’m so weird!  My strategy worked though and now I literally love raw vegetables.  Noah and I are both obsessed with hummus.  I’m thinking about doing a video tutorial making homemade hummus…would you like that?  Continue Reading…

A few of you have asked me what changes I made early on in my journey to quitting processed food.  In September 2012 I joined Weight Watchers (they have a nursing mom’s track).  I hit a plateau in losing my baby weight and didn’t know where to turn.  I was tired, a hungry nursing mom, and had no clue about proper portion sizes.  Some days I would eat a ton and others I would barely eat anything.  My metabolism was all over the place and I was completely addicted to sugar and processed food and realized that I had this addiction for the past seven years.

Just to delve into my addiction if anyone can relate, I would literally wake up in the morning thinking about food.  I would crave *Chick-fil-a sandwiches (they have almost 100 ingredients) and their lemonade that has loads of refined sugar.  I developed terrible habits during both of my pregnancies and craved either super salty or super sweet food.  I would indulge in the majority of my cravings, not really thinking about the effect these choices would have on my own body and my two year old son (at the time) who was with me every step of the way, watching me, and developing the same addiction as his mommy. Real Mom Real Food

March 21, 2013

Hi friends, I am so incredibly excited to share my new blog layout designed by my dear friend Tom Boto!  His wife Julie is one of my best and dearest friends and at dinner a few nights ago he offered to help me with my blog (since I’m not so tech savvy) and I said YES!  When he sent me my new set up I was completely floored.  So thanks Tom and Julie for believing in me and inspiring me to continue on this real food journey!

I chose the name Real Mom Real Food because I am just a normal, suburban mom trying to figure out how to best take care of my little family.  I also discovered that there is another amazing site with basically my old blog name:o)!  Check out Real Food Fort Worth and you will find some amazing places to get local, organic, unprocessed food.  I still plan to visit all of these places and report my thoughts back to you! There is also a facebook page that I found a few days ago called Real Food Fort Worth (it is informative and helpful too!)!  I am switching my facebook group name to Real Mom Real Food to not cause any confusion between the two groups.
